Philadelphia University head
basketball coach Herb Magee can add Hall of Famer to his
already impressive resume. The most-winning coach in college
basketball history was named as one of the
newest members of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of
Fame Monday. I am completely humbled to be
enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame
said Coach Magee" ;I have dedicated my life to the
game of basketball, and to become a member of this sport's elite
group of players and coaches is an honor.
For the longtime Philly U. coach who happens to
be the all-time, all-division NCAA wins leader with 922 career
victories, this is heady territory. He only got into coaching only
after turning down an offer to work for a chemical company. "I
coached the JV team when I first got started and we had some success
and I knew 'this is what I should be doing,'" Magee said.
Former NBA All-Stars Dennis Rodman and Chris
Mullin headline the 2011 HOF class. They are joined by coaching
legends Tex Winter, innovator of the "Triangle" offense, and
Stanford's Tara VanDerveer and longtime NBA and ABA star Artis
Gilmore; former Portland TrailBlazers center Arvydas Sabonis;
Olympic gold medalist Teresa Edwards; Harlem Globetrotter Reece
"Goose" Tatum; and Boston Celtic Tom "Satch" Sanders.
